BROTHERS REID HOT NEW DEBUT SINGLE 'DO IT YOURSELF' OUT MONDAY 16TH AUGUST

BR poster

Brothers Reid - an exciting new 5-piece folk/blues/bluegrass band from the North-East of Scotland. Based in rural Aberdeenshire the group take influence from their natural surroundings, blending a 70's bluesy tone with modern and traditional folk, creating an organic and original sound.

At the heart of this band is the tight song-writing duo of brothers Fish and Chris Reid on slide and acoustic guitars. Performing vocal duets and leading the band as they play foot stomping sets of original tunes laced with some classic fiddle, banjo and moothy lines by talented all rounder Rory Comerford.

'Do it Yourself' is the debut single from Brothers Reid and is an up–tempo, melodic hoe-down that is bursting with energy which, just like their live shows, is really not to be missed. This will be the 1st single form their forthcoming debut album due out on Fat Hippy in summer 2011 so watch this space!

BRILLIANT NEW RIGHT HAND LEFT SINGLE ‘LIPSTICK’ OUT MONDAY 3RD MAY

Right Hand Left are back! Formed under the cold grey skies of Aberdeen in 2007 with a range of musical influences including The Police, Death Cab For Cutie, The Rapture and Johnny Cash, theirs is a hard sound to put a handle on…

Their immensely popular and critically acclaimed debut single, ‘Johnny Ray’ (fat hippy July 07), sold over 500 CD singles, clocked up 1,000 worldwide downloads, received national airplay throughout the UK and is still on many playlists today. The last 2 years have seen them share the stage with numerous high profile bands such as The Futureheads, Brakes, Frightened Rabbit and the Noisettes and recent tours have seen them play dates across Scotland with successful fellow Aberdonians The Xcerts.

Monday 3rd May 2010 sees the long awaited release of their brilliant second single ‘Lipstick’. This beautifully crafted threesome of heart felt tunes subtly draw you into the deeper emotions of the music in a way that lovers of Biffy Clyro and The Xcerts will definitely appreciate. More honest and revealing than it’s predecessor, ‘Lipstick’ sees Right Hand Left reveal a little of the force that drives them….

DEBUT TURNING THIRTEEN SINGLE ‘STRING SHE PULLED’ OUT MONDAY 29TH MARCH

T13 tour

Turning Thirteen – a dynamic four-piece Aberdeen band whose debut single, ‘String She Pulled’, is packed with enormous riffs, moods that flit from light to shade and impassioned vocals, are powering out of their hometown to take on the world. The seeds of Turning Thirteen were sown when front man Steve Bruce and his brother Jeff decided, united by a love of music, to start something that was unique to the their corner of Scotland. Since those early days, they have evolved into one of Scotland’s most exciting new rock bands with sweet melodies twisted with a heavy crunch and shades of hardcore punk.

Following the success of the self- financed mini album ‘Baby Puzzles’ (2006), show-stopping support slots with ‘Biffy Clyro’, like-minded Brit rockers ‘Hundred Reasons’ and more recently Welsh rock band ‘Future Of The Left’, the band were approached by several Scottish indie labels for a debut release. Choosing to stay true to their musical roots Turning Thirteen headed into the studio to record their debut single ‘String She Pulled’ with established Aberdeen label Fat Hippy Records.

Turning Thirteen are poised for greatness. The group of fans who once held them as their own little secret is growing like wild fire and the word of mouth buzz about their intense live shows and fresh sound is getting louder everyday... and as for Turning Thirteen’s state of mind and love of music, they’ve been sure for as long as they have been playing together that this is what drives them!

Turning Thirteen ‘String She Pulled’ out Mon 29th March available from various record shops and on iTunes, Napster, Spotify, hmv.com, play.com, eMusic etc

NEW FIVEFIFTEEN SINGLE ‘ONLY WAY TO BE’ OUT MON 16TH NOVEMBER

FH50 FFLTD, one of our most successful artists Fivefifteen are back again with their new single “Only Way To Be”, the follow up to last years highly successful “S.O.S” single which saw the band play a number of packed gigs across Scotland and attracted airplay, downloads and physical sales from all over Europe and the U.S.A. With a settled line up for over 18 months now, Fivefifteen just keep getting better and better. Tighter and sharper than they’ve ever been their wealth of live and studio experience is really starting to show as the band mature into one of the top indie/rock bands in Scotland. Recorded & mixed this summer in London with Driveblind (Geffen) guitarist Nicholas J Tyler and mastered at Metropolis by Frank Arkwright, the “Only Way To Be” single really captures the bands electric live sound and is the perfect compliment to their reputation as a great live band.

This years’ launch tour comes with support from Chris Helme (Seahorses, The Yards) whose own love and respect of their music further emphasizes how far Fivefifteen have come. Undoubtedly “ones to watch” as we move into 2010 check out this great new single now!

From the Xcerts to Driveblind via My Minds Weapon and Edgar Prais, nearly every band from the area that's gone on to national (and in some cases) international success in recent times was nurtured at the bosom of Fat Hippy Records. Some of these bands return for guest appearances on Fat Hippy Sampler Vol III, along with the next generation of local groups destined for future greatness.

Genres on this latest offering range from Indie Pop to Splat Metal. At Fat Hippy egos and images are checked at the door - these are simply 20 bands making original music with the talent and potential to make a career out of their craft.

Without getting too rose-tinted about it, Fat Hippy is an independent record label in the traditional sense. We've spent a lot of time, effort and money over the last 6 years producing nearly 50 CDs and putting on hundreds of gigs all around the country. We've not made any money out of it yet, but the warm fuzzy feeling we get every time we release something new out into the galaxy makes up for it.

Anyway, we do hope you can do a little bit to help tell the world about this fantastic CD that offers an amazing 72 minutes of entertainment for only £3! With 20 bands on this CD that’s only 15p per song, surely an irresistible opportunity to experience a slice of the future before it arrives!!

NEW SINGLE FROM HOT MANGU…
NECROPOLIS OUT NOW…

Continuing Fat Hippy Records’ six-year-and-counting legacy, Aberdeen-based Hot Mangu are set to complete the fourth in a trilogy of four singles on Fat Hippy, with the release of “Necropolis’ out on 2nd June.

Necropolis’ is classic Mangu, with their infectious combination of Funk, Rock and Metal… but this time the beast has grown showing us a darker and heavier side. Imagine if Les Claypool had left Primus, joined Metallica and taught them to write songs… you’d start to get close!

The release follows the success of the four-piece’s first three singles and debut album. Formed in 2001, Hot Mangu’s crazed fusion of musical stylings first saw the light of day in 2003 with their self released Splat Metal EP. After extensive touring over the next two years they came back with the release of their eagerly awaited debut album ‘444’ which was released on Fat Hippy in 2006. Since then they have been prolific to say the least, writing and recording three brand new singles in 2007 alone and winning fans over the length and breadth of the country.

Hot Mangu embark on their promotional tour playing various cities around Scotland during May, June and July… Hot Mangu are splating in a venue near you quite soon:

26 May – Moshulu, Aberdeen …supporting Skindred
29 May – Whistlebinkies, Edinburgh
30 May – Café Drummonds, Aberdeen
8 June – Nice'n'Sleazy's, Glasgow

NEW SINGLE FROM FIVEFIFTEEN…
S.O.S OUT NOW…

Aberdeen-based Fivefifteen complete their triptych of limited edition singles on Fat Hippy, with their third single released 31st May. ‘S.O.S’ – described as an ”up-beat pop rock record, that’s got everything encapsulated within the 2mins 18secs!” - will be supported by several Scottish dates during March and April.

The release follows the success of the five-piece’s first two singles, the anthemic ‘No Spitting Involved’ and the melodic ‘The Killer Line’ both of which received broad support from Scottish radio. Both releases were limited edition singles, and both sold out within a month.

Developed from an initial three-piece, their first gig in 2005 was supporting Shed 7’s Rick Witter. By the time a second guitarist was enlisted and the Hammond and piano-player were added to the fray, not to mention the spinal tap-esque amount of drummers they’ve been through, V:XV were more than ready to take on the world.

V:XV embark on their promotional tour playing various cities around Scotland at the end of March and then will tour as support for The Wallbirds for their Inverness (10th April), Aberdeen (14th) and Dundee (15th) shows, adding to their already high-profile supports and gigs (1990’s, Paolo Nutini, Belladrum, Kula Shaker, Rick Witter & Driveblind)

NEW SINGLE FROM CAPTAIN FACE…
HOME EP OUT NOW…

100% CRAD is the spanking new single from Captain Face and it takes another timely swing at the Americanisation of youth culture (like, totally!) with a spasmodic but agreeable tune that wedges itself into the subconscious from the first listen.

Last single 'Small Joy' - which received support from the likes of Vic Galloway and radio across Scotland - saw the band marry the sublime with the ridiculous and demonstrated their enthusiasm for creating riff-laden rock music with a smack of the outlandish.

Captain Face

13/08/07
NEW EP FROM THE LORELEI…
HOME EP OUT NOW…

Older, wiser, wider - and indisputably back on a scene that once embraced their energetic, folk-tinged guitar grunge - the band’s new, high-octane material is already causing a stir.

May saw them support The Wonderstuff’s Miles Hunt on his acoustic tour and the weekend just past saw them light up the Belladrum festval… watch this space!

30/07/07
DEBUT SINGLE FROM RIGHT HAND LEFT…
JOHNNY RAY OUT NOW…

Right Hand Left are the latest act to emerge from Fat Hippy. Their debut single is out today (30/07/07) and is available from selected shops and through iTunes.

All hailing from Aberdeen, band members Joseph Nolan (lead guitar), Patrick Shearer (bass, backing vocals), Scott Kelman (drums) and Bobby Will (guitar, vocals) came together after their original bands – Flight 19 and the Manchester-based Then Came Music – split. Before Right Hand Left was born, the former had recorded two EPs with Fat Hippy.

Influenced by the likes of Soulwax, Bloc Party and Led Zeppelin, Right Hand Left have been steadily raising their profile with appearances at Scottish festivals like goNorth and an impressive range of support slots across the country with The Mystery Jets, The Noisettes, The Automatic, Brakes, Captain, Battle, Little Man Tate, The Endrick Brothers, Biffy Clyro, The Young Knives and Mumm-ra.

Ambidextrous by name and by nature, the band are grabbing increasingly bigger crowds (at Scottish venues like The Tunnels, Moshulu, The Barfly, 13th Note and Cabaret Voltaire) and consistently showcasing their chart-friendly musicianship in the studio and on stage.

‘Johnn Ray’ looks set to shake up the Scottish airwaves and is but a brief taster of things to come

“Like The Police, Hundred Reasons and The Futureheads if you locked them up and threw away the key. Right Hand Left are an eclectic delight.” NME
